Choiceworks®️ App

Choiceworks®️ Calendar

The Choiceworks Calendar is a full-featured, kid friendly calendar app designed to help children learn concepts of time and help caregivers to keep them organized. Currently iOS only.

Made at a kitchen table, for families like ours.

Bee Visual has been making visual-support apps for children with special needs since 2005. ChoiceWorks and ChoiceWorks Calendar help kids understand their day, manage waiting and big feelings, and move through routines with confidence, the same tools founder Michele Walker first built for her own children.

It is still a kitchen table, but the people around it have lived this work, studied it, and chosen to spend their lives on it. The voice that guides children through the app is Luke's, recorded in a bedroom closet when he was seven years old. He has since graduated from UMass with a degree in Psychology and Brain Sciences and is heading to Suffolk University for his master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and he still helps shape how the app looks and feels. Matt, co-developer, holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Holocaust and Genocide Studies from Keene State. He leads the Android work, tests the apps, studies the devices and the market, and is Michele's right hand.

Michele herself holds a master's in Applied Educational Psychology and a U.S. patent for the method behind ChoiceWorks. She has worked in schools, hospitals, and on a locked pediatric psychiatric unit, and she built ChoiceWorks out of necessity, not a business plan. She still answers the support emails herself. It is a woman-owned, self-funded company with no investors and no data collection: Bee Visual has never sold or shared user data, and never will.

Today ChoiceWorks is used around the world, by families and schools, in hospitals, and in university programs that train special educators. The apps chart daily in Education on the App Store.

ChoiceWorks grew out of the same research and clinical practice that shapes the field. Here is what some of its most respected voices have said.

"So many children are challenged on a daily basis in participating in and understanding social situations, and in regulating and expressing their emotions. The ChoiceWorks Visual Support System is a well designed, high quality system for supporting children, their parents and professionals in daily routines and activities. It is an essential 'transactional support' that is consistent with practices we have developed in the SCERTS Model."

Barry M. Prizant, Ph.D., CCC-SLP — Author of Uniquely Human and co-developer of the SCERTS Model

"I am so proud of the visual supports that Bee Visual has created, as the development of emotional regulation is so critical to a child's social and communicative competence. I believe ChoiceWorks is a wonderful asset and will help many children."

Emily Rubin, MS, CCC-SLP — Director, Communication Crossroads

"The ChoiceWorks Visual Support System provides exactly the kind of communication support that enables children to follow routines, make choices and demonstrate appropriate behavior. This system is a fabulous tool to help children participate more effectively with greater independence."

Linda Hodgdon, M.Ed., CCC-SLP — Author of Visual Strategies for Improving Communication

"The ChoiceWorks System is very creative and thoughtfully developed and should be most helpful for teachers, parents and children."

Gary Mesibov, Ph.D. — Professor Emeritus, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Director of the TEACCH Autism Program, 1992-2012
